Winter’s Coming! Make Sure You and Your Home are Prepared.

As hard as it is to believe, summer is nearly over and before too long, Old Man Winter will make his way to Western North Carolina. Last year was harsh for these parts, so as you’re putting away your bathing suits and sunscreen, we’d like to tell you about some of the features that a Windsor Aughtry single family home has designed to insure a safe, warm, and comfortable winter.
  • Insulation is a primary factor in making sure your home will always be warm no matter what weather comes your way.
  • There are two types of insulation installed in your house: Batt insulation which is used primarily in the walls and in the floored areas of your attic creating a protective barrier from the outside elements and blown insulation is used in the remaining areas of the attic.
  • It is important NOT to compress blown insulation. Compressing it will reduce its R-value which will render it less effective in heating your home.

Pipes are something to keep in mind as the temperature begins to drop.

  • Windsor Aughtry applies Armorflex to the pipes on the exterior walls of its Western North Carolina homes. This material is designed to give these pipes added protection from freezing and bursting during the most severe winter weather.
  • Remember that it’s important to disconnect hoses or any other items that may be attached to exterior spickets or hose bibs as water can get trapped and will cause cracks that will make the pipe less functional.

Finally make friends with your thermostat. It will be your closest ally in fighting off the elements this winter while not doing too much damage to your pocketbook.

  • For the greatest balance of warmth and value, Windsor Aughtry would like to recommend you keep your thermostat between 68 and 75 degrees.

Windsor Aughtry has become one of Western North Carolina’s leading home builders by making sure that the homes in our planned communities meet or exceed all local, state, and federal requirements. With that said, we believe your home has everything you need to stay warm and cozy this winter.
