Asheville, NC: A Cyclist’s Paradise.

Due to its great health benefits and just being an all around enjoyable way to get from one place to another, the world of cycling has enjoyed a tremendous boost in popularity in recent years. With its scenic mountain views and over all friendly bike culture it’s no wonder some cycling enthusiasts have made a special trip to western North Carolina to take a spin.  Here are a few good reasons why you should too.

  • A converted motor speedway, the “Mellowdrome” is a 498 meter track with a 4-8 degree banking locate in Carrier Park.  Races are held here every Wednesday during the summer alternating betweencycle blog track bikes and road bikes.
  • The Blue Ridge Parkway: Built in 1935 as part of the New Deal, The Blue Ridge Parkway runs right through western North Carolina and always has many cyclists enjoying mountain views that go for miles and stops at The Folk Art Center or other attractions.
  • Through out the year there are many cycling events such as the Assault on Mt. Mitchell (the highest peak east of the Mississippi) and the Roan Groan among others to keep you busy all season long.
