Get Ready! Old Man Winter is Coming!

Though the first official day of winter is December 21st we have already seen our first signs of the white stuff in western North Carolina. Considering the unusual amount of rain that we have had this year it might be best to prepare for some crazy winter weather as another fall fades to memory.  Here are a few things that you as a home owner can do to prepare your home for the colder months and possibly save some money.

Disconnect Hoses from Spigots: This is a primary concern of ours as it relates to our homeowners.  You’ve had that garden hose plugged in from a summer of watering plants, children playing in the sprinkler, and washing your car and now you’ve forgotten about.  This can cause water to collect in the spigot and freeze which can cause your spigot to bust or crack.

Emergency Numbers: Remember should something go wrong with your heating, electricity, or your plumbing, yourNewpictures088 emergency contact numbers are located in the inside panel of your electrical breaker box.  These are the numbers you should call in case of an emergency.

Fire Place Inspection: Have your fire place inspected every year to make sure that it is working properly.  In case of power outage, your fireplace is equipped with a battery operated back up system so you should never be without heat.

After building new homes in western North Carolina for over 25 years, we at Windsor Aughtry know that this is a special place to spend the colder months.  From the snow falling on the mountains to holiday festivities, winter in this area has so much to offer.  We’d like for you to follow these friendly reminders so you can the most out of the season in your Windsor Aughtry home.
